Orientation

Meet like-minded students in a faith-filled environment

Students not yet admitted to the University may contact the Admissions Office at (225) 490-1631 to obtain information and/or specifics on how to apply.

ORIENTATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. ADMITTED STUDENTS SHOULD SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND MEET WITH AN ADVISOR PRIOR TO COMPLETING ORIENTATION REGISTRATION.  To schedule your advising appointment, contact the Advising Center at (225) 768-0801.

We applaud your decision to attend the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University. The Office of Admissions and the University would like to welcome you to our campus community. Our office coordinates a one day (8:00am-1:30pm) orientation program designed to support your experience here.

Orientation is a required program for incoming Freshman and Transfer students (optional for parents) that helps students prepare for successful navigation during their first year at FranU.  At orientation, we will cover the topics that will help you prepare for and successfully navigate your first year at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University. Readmitted, continuing students who have already taken classes at FranU or non-matriculating students are not required to attend these orientation sessions. Students taking only online classes are not required to attend.

Incoming SPRING 2019 students (ONLY if your start term is  SPRING 2019), select one date from the following sessions and register at this link: https://orientation-spring2019.eventbrite.com

    • Session 1 – Tuesday, January 8, 2019
    • Session 2 – Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Student: The cost of orientation is $50 which covers all expenses for program materials, lunch, parking tag, student ID.

Family: A parent/family guest orientation fee is $25 per person and limited to two guests maximum. (To request registration of more than 2 guests, contact Lynn Savoie at lynn.savoie@franu.edu.) Lunch is included with this fee.

Parent/family members are not required to attend, but we strongly encourage parents, guardians, significant other and other family members to attend especially if this is your first university experience. So much information is new and sometimes confusing; it really helps to have at least two set of ears.

Lunch will be provided from Chick-fil-A.  If you have any particular food allergies of which we should be aware, please email me at lynn.savoie@franu.edu to let me know so appropriate consideration may be made for your lunch. We can provide a gluten free and/or vegetarian meal, if needed or preferred.

What should you bring and how to prepare?

  • Handout material will be provided at check in.
  • Dress for orientation is casual and comfortable. We suggest you bring a light sweater in case the room temperature becomes cool.
  • An optional student guided walking tour will be available at 1:30 so wear comfortable shoes if you’d like to take a walk around campus to familiarize yourself with the layout.
  • While on campus you may obtain your student ID. Processing for IDs will begin at 8:00.
  • In order to secure your parking tag, you will need your current drivers license and your license plate number.

Location

Orientation is held in the Biological Learning Research (BLR) Building (Room 100) located at 5222 Brittany Drive, Suite B, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. Parking is available at 5345 Brittany Drive between our Liberal Arts and Sciences buildings.

Refunds

All orientation fees (both students and family members) are nonrefundable. Deciding not to attend the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University or having your admission rescinded due to poor academic performance does not qualify you to receive a refund of orientation fees. If you decide not to attend the University, then you are responsible for notifying the Office of Admissions.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Admissions at 225-490-1630 or email me at lynn.savoie@franu.edu. Thank you!
