Fundamentals of Chemistry I introduces the student to the basic principles of the science of chemistry. The course begins with a discussion of the importance of units of measurement, and the interconversions between units and the reliability of data. These themes are reiterated throughout the course. Major areas of emphasis in this course are: 1) the organization of matter; 2) the stoichiometry of chemical change; 3) gas behavior; 4) energy transformations that accompany chemical change; 5) and electron configurations and periodicity. Enrollment in CHEM 1315L strongly recommended.
