The purpose of the bachelor of science degree in Health Sciences is to allow students who have earned an associate of science degree from an accredited clinical program to obtain a baccalaureate degree in a track that complements their degree. The Health Service Administration curriculum is designed to prepare students for rewarding careers as health care managers in a variety of settings.

Enrollment

Students who have completed an Associate of Science degree from an accredited clinical program are qualified for enrollment in the Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree program.

Length of Program

The length of the program depends on the number of credit hours that the student earned at the associate degree level and the number of upper level courses that transfer.

Financial Assistance

Transferability

See Transfer Equivalencies regarding transferability of courses taken at other regionally accredited colleges and universities. Further information regarding transfer of credit can be obtained at the Office of Admissions. Credit for university level achievement may be awarded through the CLEP and/or ACT examination.

Admission Requirements

  1. An Associate of Applied Science or Associate of Science degree in a health related major (e.g., health technology, medical assisting, human services and technology, health information management, respiratory therapy, radiologic technology, surgical technology, physical therapy assistant) or 90 total semester hours of credit with 30 of those credits taken within a clinical program (e.g. Nursing)
  2. Minimum GPA of 2.0 on all attempted coursework

Application Procedures

Students should complete the regular application online indicating Health Sciences as the selected program. Any questions related to the online application process should be addressed through the Admissions Office at 225-768-1700.

Graduation Requirements

The Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences is conferred upon students when the following conditions are met, in addition to the general requirements for graduation:

  • Completion of 122 semester credit hours;
  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher on all college work with grades of C or better in all courses leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences;
  • Fulfillment of the residency requirement of the University (see Academic Policies section), with 2 service learning projects;
  • Clearance of all indebtedness to the University, including the return of all materials borrowed from the university library.
